Police interview students at Virginia Beach's Landstown High

VIRGINIA BEACH

Police, fire and FBI officials are questioning students and interviewing others today after a student was charged Tuesday with planning to bomb Landstown High School.

Officials could file more charges this afternoon depending on what their interviews reveal, said Battalion Chief Tim Riley, a spokesman for the fire department. Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant said he expects one or two more arrests to be made in the case.

A 17-year-old senior at Landstown has been charged with 10 counts of manufacturing and possessing an explosive device and one count of manufacturing an explosive device for use in a terrorist act. He was being held in the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center today without bond.

His identity has not been released because he is a juvenile.

One of the student’s friends told officials Sunday that the teen planned to bomb the school, leading them to obtain a search warrant for his house in the 2800 block of Saville Garden Way. There, police said they found 28 pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails and other explosives, plus additional bomb-making materials.

The teen had a “fascination” with the April 20, 1999, shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., Bryant said.

High School pipe bomber

I am glad that someone came forward and spoke up before the situation became tragic. However we still should find out why some people are feeling so hopeless and left out that they want to kill others. I wonder what is going on that some feel so alienated that they try to hurt others. Often nice ideas like "acceptance" and "diversity" are tossed around but is enough done to bring in those that are really being left out.

Hero?

What I would call the "friend" who notified authorities about the possible bombing! Sometimes you have to wonder about what the world is coming to and then a young person steps forward to offer a ray of hope. All the parents of children at Landstown must be thankful-they may be saying a few prayers to the Lord.

well I believe even though he is 17 years old you should tell who he is. He is grown up enough to make 28 pipe bombs. If there are more out there mixed up with this kid they better just turn themselves in before they are hunted down. If you think you are grown enough to do this then you are grown enough to take the punishment.
