Norfolk police said Thursday they are looking for white men in their teens to early 20s in vandalisms at several synagogues and buildings in the city.
Synagogues, vehicles and buildings were vandalized with anti-Semitic and anti-gay stickers between Saturday and Sunday, police said. The areas vandalized were in Ghent, on Granby Street south of Wards Corner and near Maury High School.
Police released surveillance video taken at Congregation Beth El in Ghent that showed one vandal with a bald head and a green jacket. Two vandals were seen wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark clothes. They left in a small, four-door sedan.
Police ask that anyone with information call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Would it be free speech if I put some advocacy stickers on your house?
Why should you have to clean off my sticker at your time and expense?
The more some things change
the more they remain the same... when it comes to intolerance & hatred, rising from ignorance. I saw similar actions from young white men, 45yrs ago, while in high school. The few Black, Latino & Asian American students in our school were constantly being harassed. It was even worse for the hand full of students of the Jewish, Islamic, Hindu & Buddhist faiths. We had a few Blacks of the Jewish faith who really caught grief. I pray that these young men have a change of heart or 1 day, their actions may go far beyond vandalism. They need to pay the price for their crimes.

Stickers. Harmless? Haven't you ever cut yourself with a razor trying to get the price tags off of Christmas packages so that you can wrap them and give them as presents?
Stickers as an expression of hate? Harmlesss? To a people who have a tradition of hundreds of years of being persecuted over religion and/or race and/or nationality? Harmless little old reminders of Antiochus Epiphanes, the ancient Romans, the Cossacks, the Nazis, the religious tests for citizenship and employment?
Remember the story about the straw that broke the camel's back? Sometimes it can be a sticker.

Lets see how much fuss would be made if some KKK stickers were placed on black churches and or cars in a black neighborhood! How about some anti whatever you are stickers on your house or car? Tell you what how about we all just put stickers on your car? I mean no big deal you can just peel them off right!
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
As offensive as we may find what these people did, let's remember that what they did was place STICKERS on doors and cars. Stickers that were easily removed and caused no damage. To call this "vandalism" would be a bit of a stretch, since no damage was done. And even if it is vandalism, it is relatively minor. Let's also remember that it is a legitimate exercise of free speech to place stickers on public buildings. On private cars, no, that is not accepable. But I have no problem with expressing one's free speech by putting up posters or stickers. Would there be this much publicity if the stickers said "Go Vegan" or "Save the Baby Seals"? Would it be in the paper then? I think not. Let's not blow things out of proportion.

Dumb and cowardly
I hope these cowardly guys get caught fast and serve lots of time behind bars. It probably wouldn't hurt to give them a psychiatric evaluation and psychiatric treatment during their periods of incarceration.
