U.S. Rep. Glenn Nye, D-Norfolk, whose election last fall in what had been considered a safely Republican district drew national attention, is already gearing up for a tough re-election battle.
A Nye filing today with the Federal Election Commission indicates that he raised more than $380,000 during the first three months of the year and has just over $357,000 in his campaign account. About 46 percent of Nye’s funds came from political action groups. More than 90 percent of his $205,385 in individual contributions came from Virginians.
Nye’s fundraising puts him ahead of the pace established by his predecessor, Republican Thelma Drake, as she prepared for last year’s campaign in early 2007. Drake raised $226,724 in the first three months of 2007 and had $190,405 on hand at the end of that period.
Drake ended up outspending Nye in last fall’s face but fell short at the polls as a strong Democratic turnout propelled the newcomer into office. Drake has not announced whether she will attempt a comeback next year, but she filed a financial report indicating that she is not currently raising campaign funds.

It is clear from the comments that the Republican Right (RR) still harps their party line and does not look at the facts. The reality is that Nye has joined with the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democratic caucus and did not vote for the stimulus bill that was passed by the House. Nye has also taken a fiscally conservative position on other bills.

Whatever. The fact remains that Nye has voted with his party over 90% of the time. Your other ugly potshots comments about Drake, who has nothing to do with Glen Nye's record, pretty much took any of your credibility away.

The comment that the “extreme deregulation of financial institutions started under Clinton” is only true because the Graham-Leach-Blyley Act was passed at the end of the Congressional session in 1999. Republican Phil Graham slipped in the deregulatory parts into the act at the last minute after it had been gone through in committee so that nobody had a chance to read it. Their financial lobbyists had gorged Phil Graham and the rest of the Republicans (and probably Democrats) in millions of dollars in lobbying funds.
Thelma Drake was the one that rubber stamped whatever her Republican handlers told her to do. Nye is clearly more educatated, knowledgable, and capable; Nye has a college degree from George Washington U while Drake has a high school equivalency certificate because she got knocked up in high school. It's really of no consequence who our President is. Same goes for the Supreme Court members, IF we get the Congress right.

I would tend to agree except that it was President Obama personally who completely delegated the job of writing the spending bills to Pelosi and Reid. If Obama had taken more control of the process, maybe it would not have gotten so out of control. So I do think the President is (or can be) consequential. In the end, though, your point is well taken.
Hey PorkFatRules
That's a good link.
Here's what it also says:

Glenn Nye has voted with a majority of his Democratic colleagues 90.0% of the time during the current Congress."

Thanks!
porkfat
Thanks for the link, which shows that HR 1, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (stimulus bill), passed the house on 1/28/09 with a YES vote by Rep Glenn Nye (vote 46, if you want to double check your information).
He's only got a 90% party-line voting record...not bad.
Once again
It's really of no consequence who our President is. Same goes for the Supreme Court members, IF we get the Congress right.
Congress has the wherewithall by the Constitution to fix every mess in this country (just as they have been responsible for making all the messes; either directly or through shirking their responsibilities.)
So let's concentrate on getting this one Branch doing right by the Constitution and we'll ALL be better off.
Wow!
It's amazing how some of you (pierreg18059, Bob Farinelli, Mark Burns, CB, ricke69229, cowpower, and justanotheruser) know so much about things you truly know so little about! Umm, Nye voted against the stimulus bill for the very reasons you recklessly, rabidly and wrongly accuse him of voting for the stimulus package. Just click the “liberal mainstream media” website below and check THE facts, not your facts. http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/n000183/key-votes/
And GettingItRight, you want more than 750 words to express your views? It's really not necessary unless you have some civil, reasoned and marginally attainable solution rather than your "kneecap" de jour. Hey, did I see you on You Tube in a wig or was it a pig headed "hat" at the tea baggers rally yesterday? Nooooooooo, you were chucking pork rinds at Webb's office! BAM! Porkfat Rules!!!
our chance (cont'd)
By the way, the Constitution spells out the powers & responsibilities of our President, too.
Our chance
OK folks, here's our opportunity to get away from the partisanship & do what's right to get our country headed in the right direction.
For the record, I'm extremely disappointed in BOTH Parties. Neither do much in accord w/ our Constitution; they view us citizens as ignorant "subjects"; & very few have a clue on how to manage money.
Rep. Nye, like both of our esteemed Senators (little joke there) HAS mostly been a rubber stamp for the present Administration & should be taken to task for it (did YOU call/e mail/write his office?)
However, to be honest, he DID vote against the recent budget (could it have been merely a tactic to throw us off? Possibly.) But, to show we're more than partisan hacks ourselves, we must recognize & commend him when he does the right thing. (Again, how many have contacted his office for this purpose?)
Also, it's easy to know if our Senators & Congressmen are doing the right or wrong thing. We don't need talking heads, newscasters, Virginian Pilot editors, etc. for this purpose. We merely need to familiarize ourselves with our Constitution. In it we will find ALL the things our elected officials are authorized to do. (BTW, that goe
I'm encouraged
It seems more and more different voices are being heard at this site - not the same old anti-anything geezers who have dominated these boards.
