The weekend run-down

THURS

Comedian Arnez J is at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone all weekend. You know this guy from "Comic View" and the straight to video "Up Against the 8-Ball." Or not.

Art Garfunkel and his very intriguing hair come to the Sandler Center.

The Ringling Bros. circus starts today, at Scope, through the weekend.

FRI

* Soul singer Chrisette Michelle -- whose song "Epiphany" is so hot and whose upcoming sophomore album, songwriter Claude Kelly told me, is unbelievably good -- appears at Ultra Lounge.

Smooth jazz maven Maysa appears with Normon Connors and Kim Waters at the Jazz Appreciation Month Benefit at the Chesapeake Conference Center.

Something called the Estilo High Fashion Runway Show is going on at the Sandler Center. The event description promises style and mysteriously appealing things including "gift incentives" and "invaluable networking with professionals in the industry and a special guest." Lamborghinis will be on display too, which is interesting, because I don't know, when someone says "fashion" my first thought isn't exactly "high performance sports car." And it STARTS at 10:30 p.m., a time when, most often, I'm happily snoozing under my down comforter. I can't imagine what all this means, so I have to see this with my own eyes.

SAT

"Ella," about the life of Ella Fitzgerald, is still playing at the Wells Theatre.

This sounds neat: "In Their Own Words: African Americans in the Revolutionary War" is a walking tour (Thurs-Sat) in Colonial Williamsburg.

SUN

The National Acrobats of China are at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News.

Emeril Lagasse is at the Ted Constant Center for a culinary expo and taste testing. I'm curious as to how everyone will get a taste -- perhaps he can divide fish and bread to make enough for everyone? -- so I'd go just to see that.

*Local comedy group The Pushers -- "mature comedy for immature people" -- has an event at ODU's University Theater.

Dope dub reggae rockers John Brow's Body do the Jewish Mother.

Boys Choir of Hampton Roads at Booker T Washington High.

Need more info on any of this? Pick up a paper (so retro-chic, everyone's doing it) and pull out that brightly colored Pulse...
