The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a windsurfer who disappeared in the waters off Pine Island Saturday evening.

The Coast Guard received a call at around 8:40 p.m. about a wind surfer in distress about 200 yards off shore. The man was reportedly wearing a black wetsuit and riding on a white surfboard with a blue sail.

A helicopter and a rescue boat crew searched for 17 hours and covered more than 112 square miles looking for the man, according to a Coast Gurad press release. The search was suspended just after 2 p.m. this afternoon.

During the search, the helicopter crew found a blue sail with no surfboard attached.
