GOP radio ad targets Nye
A national Republican group has launched a radio ad in Hampton Roads that hits U.S. Rep Glenn Nye, D-2nd Dist., for his recent vote with fellow Democrats to block an investigation sought by a GOP Congressman.
The brouhaha stems from recent comments by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Bush administration CIA officials misled her during a 2002 briefing about the use of waterboarding as an interrogation technique.
Earlier this month, U.S. Rep Rob Bishop, a Utah Republican, called for an investigation into Pelosi's claims. His resolution to initiate a probe was defeated by Democrats, including Nye.
The radio ad sponsored by the National Republican Congressional Committee is scheduled to air in the Hampton Roads market for one week.
A similar ad funded by the NRCC that targets U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-5th Dist., is airing in the Roanoke and Danville areas. Perriello was among the Democrats who voted against the resolution.
Nye and Perriello are first-term Congressmen who defeated Republican incumbents in the 2008 election. And Republicans concede their seats are among those the party will target in 2010.
An NRCC official called Nye's vote "a rubberstamp" for Pelosi and an example of the Congressman failing to deliver "the kind of change Virginia voters were expecting."
A spokesman from Nye's office dismissed the radio ad and responded by accusing Republican operatives of being "more interested in playing politics as usual instead of solving problems."
