Boys soccer

Today’s quarterfinals at Powhatan Field Kecoughtan (12-5-0) vs. Kellam (15-1-2), 2 p.m. ; Hickory (12-4-1) vs. Lake Taylor (7-8-0), 4 p.m. ; Maury (12-4-2) vs. Grassfield (13-4-1), 6 p.m. ; Cox (15-2-1) vs. Warwick (10-4-3), 8 p.m.

Coming up Semifinals are 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Powhatan Field. The championship game is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Powhatan Field .

Outlook Cox set an Eastern Region record for championships last season when the Falcons won their 10th. They’re once again the favorites. Cox is ranked No. 19 nationally in the May 12 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas poll and were No. 5 in Region I. The Falcons are coming off a 5-0 loss to Ocean Lakes in the Beach District tournament semifinals. Kellam, the Beach District tournament champion, is 9-0-1 in its last 10 matches. Hickory, which has won eight of its last 10 , won the Southeastern District regular-season and tournament titles. Maury rolled over the Eastern District, and outscored opponents 10-0 in the tournament. Kecoughtan, which played in last season’s region championship, went 11-0 against Peninsula District foes en route to regular-season and tournament titles.

Girls soccer

Today’s quarterfinals at Old Dominion Soccer Stadium Churchland (8-5-1) vs. Hickory (15-3-0), 2 p.m. ; Kempsville (10-4-2) vs. Denbigh (14-2-0), 4 p.m. ; Menchville (10-6-2) vs. Cox (16-1-2), 6 p.m.; Great Bridge (12-4-1) vs. Maury (10-5-2), 8 p.m.

Coming up Semifinals are 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at ODU Soccer Stadium . The championship game is 5:30 p.m. Friday at Powhatan Field.

Outlook Cox, the defending Eastern Region champion, is the favorite again. The Falcons are ranked No. 10 in Region II in the May 12 NSCAA/adidas poll. The Falcons, whose lone loss was to Kellam, outscored opponents 13-1 in the Beach District tournament. Kempsville coach Lauren Tucei, the Beach District Coach of the Year, leads the Chiefs into the region tournament. Hickory, led by Southeastern District Player of the Year Samantha Hinson, went 11-0 against district foes. Denbigh and Maury had little trouble winning regular-season and tournament titles.
