Informants say Blackwater guards tried to unload arms

Posted to: Blackwater Military

Shortly after a 2007 shooting incident in a Baghdad traffic square that left 17 Iraqi civilians dead, Blackwater contractors allegedly transferred a number of machine guns to another contractor who is now charged with trying to smuggle them out of Iraq.

The Blackwater contractors wanted to dispose of the weapons before an investigation of the bloody incident began, according to two confidential government informants.

John Houston, the contractor charged in the case, allegedly told one of the informants that after Blackwater "got into trouble," the guards had to get rid of the firearms so they wouldn't be caught with them.

The Sept. 16, 2007, shooting incident in Nisoor Square enraged Iraqis and led to the loss of Blackwater's lucrative diplomatic security contract in Iraq.

The Moyock, N.C.-based private military company has since renamed itself Xe.

Six Blackwater contractors face manslaughter and weapons charges stemming from the incident.

Houston, a retired Special Forces soldier, is charged separately with trying to smuggle eight machine guns and a semi automatic pistol from Iraq into the United States. The indictment was handed down last week by a federal grand jury in Maryland.

Houston, 43, served with the Army Special Operations Command, headquartered at Fort Bragg, N.C., until his retirement as a sergeant major in 2006. At the time of the Nisoor Square shootings, he was working in Iraq for SOS International, a New York-based military contractor.

In a sworn statement, Christopher Trainor, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, quoted the two confidential informants as saying Houston told them he obtained machine guns from Blackwater contractors after the Nisoor Square incident.

According to the agent, Houston told the informants that Blackwater employees had a large shipping container filled with firearms that they had seized from Iraqi insurgents.

After the Baghdad shootings, Houston allegedly told one informant, the Blackwater personnel passed some of the firearms to him "because they wanted to dispose of the weapons before an investigation ensued."

Houston's attorney declined to comment on the allegations.

Anne Tyrrell, a Xe spokeswoman, said in a brief e-mail statement that "possession of unauthorized firearms is in violation of the company's strict policies."

Apart from the Houston case, Xe has been the subject of several government investigations of alleged improper arms shipments related to its security work in Iraq.

Other than being on the internet all day...what are you doing??

Do any of you have any idea why companies like Blackwater/Xe are over in the middle east? It's because you sit on your fat liberal butts and don't do anything about what's going on in the world. You do nothing to protect the American people. Where were you when the first responders were killed and their comrades had to sift through the ashes to trying to find a piece of a human bone. Something to give to their families to bury. If you are so against the military contractors doing their jobs then get up and make a difference in your life and actually do something. I get tired of people like you sitting around blogging and commenting on all the news articles that are posted daily. It's funny I can look at most sites and see the same names. You know why, you have no life, nothing to make you extraordinary. The only thing you have is your voice because you won't put any pride or effort into actually doing something. People are people, mistakes are going to be made. BUT do not sit here an judge least you shall be judged. Personally I'd rather be judged for at least trying than for doing nothing and thinking my point of view is the only correct one. Again...you don't like it...then get u

Ignorance is bliss to many of you.

You poor touchy feely left wing socialistic hippiefied fools. You have never learned the truth or reality throughout history, why? Because you are normally killed by those the right tries to protect you against once you take majority control away from those who understand the true world not the imaginary utopia you think talking can create.
Just remember Daniel Pearl was a journalist. The men drug through the streets naked in Somalia were there to feed and help the Somali people.
The hostages in Iran included secretaries, office workers etc. The Marines in Beirut Peacekeepers who had to ask permission to return fire when attacked and wait for the order from outside the theater(the reason I did not reenlist).
So who do you want protecting you? a 19 year old worried to death he will get in trouble for shooting his weapon when taking fire or a professional whose #1 concern is your protection without all the quagmire of the ROE's "YOU" all have imposed that aid our enemies and those who want to kill you and or any American.
WAKE UP before you end up like your predecessors in history, dead!

Blackwater

Blackwater performed a great service in Iraq? Heck, they should have never been there to begin with let alone been there pretty much completely unsupervised. "Private security" in a war zone at exorbitant costs to the taxpayer is a bad idea. In fact, it is a terrible idea that is ripe for abuses (which we have already seen). Yet another terrible decision by the Bush Administration.

DENIAL

Blackwater supporters never cease to amaze me in their steadfast denial that they ever do anything wrong. They currently have the distinction of being the most investigated private enterprise in the country. Being a firm beleiver where there is smoke there is fire i find it hard to beleive they are blameless. For all the die hard Republicans the vast majority if not all investigations began under a Republican regime.Their problems began a long time before Obama was elected and i feel certain they will continue long after he is gone.

Why Blame Obama?

Blackwater is bad news, always has been. If the American people only knew all of the awful things that Blackwater has been implicated in overseas. What is being reported now is just the tip of the iceberg. And the only reason for that is that the Bush Administration covered for Blackwater at every turn. Even with the full protection of the Bush Administration, and particularly the State Dept under Condi Rice, these cowboys at Blackwater STILL couldn't keep their shenanigans under wraps. This has nothing to do with Obama...Blackwater has been getting themselves into all sorts of trouble all on their own since long before Obama came along. That company is under a dozen federal investigations right now as we speak.

WHAT ???

Blackwater or Xe as it is now known, preformed a great service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Killing the enemy is a nasty job and sometimes the wrong people are in the wrong place and they are killed. It happens in war. I for one support Xe and I will as long as they are on our side. To hell with all you liberal gutless wonders.

Money

Erik Prince gave $200,000 to the Bush people prior to 9/11. Post 9/11, Bush/Cheney give Prince his return on investment. Prince receives several Billion Dollars in no bid contracts. Most important;ly Blackwater is given sovereign immunity and can kill whoever they want-no questions asked. The rest is just details. That game is over and it was always about the money. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose and just another smokescreen for making money.

No faith, No respect with the news media

When it's about war, the military, fighting a war on terrorism, good guys winning,Blackwater the liberal media will stop at nothing. They will drain the last drop of blood if it leads to a front page article.
Just like with Obama, things that needs to be reported is not reported on fear it will make Telepromp Obama look bad, when you tell me I'm wrong, please back it up. Bush would be front page every day if he goof in a speech or slip on words. The media (AP) are determine to get the last word in with Blackwater, even if they get it wrong.

AP News

This is actually not just a Pilot story, it's in the AP News, we'll find out if it's a fabrication when they go to trial. I, myself is tired of hearing the Blackwater story, it's really too bad that few bad "apples" can destroy a company but, oh well....

Weapons

This is pure fabrication!! Those weapons are moved in and out of the country under the direction of the Department of State. In the turn-over of the contract from Blackwater to Triple Canopy, the Department of State owned weapons (and vehicles, and other equipment) is being transferred to the new contractor.
I would love for Bill Sizemore to state his sources for this story.

Blame it on Clinton...uh Obama...

One thing everyone must get used to - bar a major catastrophe Obama will likely get reelected. It's already apparent. Apparently, his administration is in tune with the majority of US citizens. But really...as a former military officer having worked with Blackwater personnel - in the war zone - I can tell you there are quite a few "cowboys" in their ranks. Such actions really don't surprise me. Some were threatening even to US personnel.

Major news!

So nothing was brought back from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War 1, Somalia, Gulf War 2, Afghanistan, The Balkans etc etc etc.
How the media and left likes to pick on Blackwater unless of course they are protecting them.

Bank Hiests

Ethan is right... AND How about the 2 biggest bank hiests in history? What is going on?

In March 2003, just hours before the U.S. bombing campaign in Iraq began, Saddam Hussein and members of his family took an estimated $1 billion in cash from Iraq’s Central Bank.

In July 2007 Guards of a bank in downtown Baghdad allegedly robbed it of $282 million in American currency and escaped into the city with one the largest hauls in history, Iraqi officials said Thursday.

Stop shaming us by trying to SERVE our brave guards up to the voice of discontent with Americans and our actions. Where's the Justice?

What do we do....

I noticed alot of people don't "post" on this article....? I'm sure it's because they can't make up there mind....is Blackwater...I mean "Xe" correct with there involvement in Iraq or Afganistan? Or somewhere else overseas. They're private civilian military soldiers that are funded by "who knows" plus legal and much needed/wanted by our government.
They can get in and out of countries as easy as you or I, but once they get in country...they go underground....and start there ???? operations....
These people, organizations, groups or whatever you want to call them have been around since Abraham Lincoln...I meet 2 of these guys about a year ago, you wouldn't believe some of the things that were discussed. Stop.

I thought the christians put bush in power.

Seems like everybody thinks their above the laws these days. We are a nation of laws, and nobody, I mean nobody is above the law.

During the iraq war our

During the iraq war our gov't sent 12 billion dollars of palletized $100 bills into the war zone. Much of it went missing. Very poor accounting of it. Imagine a bag with 500 million in American cash with the label "To Be Determined." That happened in Iraq. And people are upset over a couple of guns?

setup

This is a government conspiracy if I've ever seen one. We all know that the B.H.O. administration funded by the left wants anyone and anything that deals with liberty and freedom expunged from American soil. Look at it, the administration wants to dialogue with Venezuela, Iran, Cuba and Somali Pirates but won't talk to Israel? Xe, formerly Blackwater is just another pawn in the liber left chess game. We can thank all those so-called Christians for backing B.H.O. He's changing things alright and I assure you, it's not for the betterment of this country.

Very shameful

I have difficulty to handle the truth in economy and international affair even though I am from a third world country.
