First Colonial 1, Ocean Lakes 0

The No. 7 seed Patriots (10-6) toppled the No. 2 Dolphins on Bailey Widman’s goal in the 66th minute of the Beach District quarterfinal.

Heather Cummings, filling in for First Colonial’s two injured goalkeepers, made five saves in her second start and first shutout. The senior, a standout in basketball and crew, joined the soccer team last week.

Widman scored off a Lizzy Callahan corner kick. The Patriots play the winner of today’s Kempville-Landstown match in Wednesday’s semifinals at Ocean Lakes.

Cox 9, Bayside 0

The top-seed Falcons (14-1-2) romped as Emory Camper registered a hat trick.

Cox 4, Kempsville 2

Will Martin scored two goals as the Falcons took a 3-2 halftime lead. Chris Albiston added a clinching goal in the 60th minute.

Landstown 2, First Colonial 1

Clay Newton’s second goal in the 75th minute lifted the No.7 seed Eagles past No. 2 First Colonial (11-2-3). The Patriots led 1-0 at halftime, but Newton pulled the Eagles (7-7-2) even in the 60th minute.

Ocean Lakes 8, Landstown 1

Liz Riley (10-4) and Sami Mignat combined for a two-hitter as the No. 2 seed Dolphins (16-4) breezed in the lone Beach District quarterfinal that was played. The other three games were rescheduled for 4 p.m. today at Tallwood, First Coloinal and Princess Anne.

Mignat also hit her second home run and accounted for three RBIs, while Riley added two hits and drove in a run.

TENNIS

Eastern Region tournament

Today’s boys and girls singles finals will be all-Beach affairs after the district’s top two seeds cruised through two runs Monday at Huntington Park in Newport News.

Cox’s Ian Fraser and teammate Cameron Brawley play for the boys title, while First Colonial’s Alex Ritter and Ocean Lakes’ Kathleen Dawson play in the girls final. Both meetings – rematches of the Beach District singles finals – begin at 9 a.m. at Huntington Park. Fraser and Ritter are the defending region champions and won quarterfinal and semifinal matches in straight sets Monday.
