A loggerhead whose left eye was removed during its rehabilitation, makes its way to the shore after being released on Thursday in Buxton, N.C. The release was coordinated by The National Park Service.

Michelle Bogardus, a biotechnician with the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, shows off a green turtle to the 200 spectators who showed up Thursday to see the sea turtle release. The turtle was recovering from a fractured carapace.

A loggerhead beats a path to the sea during a release on Thursday in Buxton, N.C. It was one of two loggerheads freed after rehab at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.
