Signer secures union support
Unions representing some Northern Virginia law enforcement personnel, Washington, D.C.-area building trade workers and state transportation workers this week gave their backing to Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Mike Signer.
The groups include member organizations that comprise the Washington, D.C. Building Trades Council; the Fairfax Deputy Sheriffs Coalition I.U.P.A. Local 5016; and 10 state chapters of the United Transportation Union.
The Signer campaign announced the endorsements this week.
A former deputy counselor to then-Gov. Mark Warner, Signer is one of two Democrats remaining in a field that once featured five candidates vying to be the party nominee for lieutenant governor.
He will face former state finance secretary Jody Wagner, a longtime South Hampton Roads resident, for the nomination to be determined by voters in the June 9 primary election.
