Beach District final

Cox 3, Kempsville 1

Three players scored as the top-seeded Falcons (16-1-2) completed a dominant run through the Beach tourney.

Emory Camper, Chloe Russell and Jessie Klamut scored for Cox, which led 2-1 at halftime and dominated possession in the second half. Russell’s goal broke a 1-1 tie eight seconds before intermission.

Gabby Carragino scored the only goal for third-seeded Kempsville (10-4-2).

A late-season loss dropped Cox into a tie with Ocean Lakes for the Beach regular-season title. The Falcons, though, defeated Ocean Lakes in a playoff and outscored opponents 13-1 in the district tournament.

“We have a young group, and it was good for them to feel that,” Cox coach Michele Clark said of the loss to Kellam.

“We worked really hard on that Monday after that loss.”

Kempsville plays Peninsula District foe Denbigh at 4 p.m., while the Falcons meet Menchville at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the region tourney.
