Thrilling news from the College of William & Mary: The school learned today that an often-off-beat but courageous collection of students, faculty and staff broke the Guinness World Record for the most people performing the Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance simultaneously in one location.
The feat took place on April 19 in the Sunken Garden when 242 “zombies” – dressed mainly, at least from the looks of a You Tube video, in college standard sweats and shorts – gathered to shuffle, stomp and slide as the classic song rolled across the lawn.
Kevin Dua, the graduating senior who organized it, received official word Friday morning after logging into the Web site through which he submitted the paperwork to Guinness, according to a college press release.
"I got up this morning and randomly check it without thinking anything, and there, right in my face, was, ‘Congratulations,'" he said. "I'm pretty sure I read it like five times."

The Phillipines was not doing the Guinness-approved cut of Thriller, which IS the record-setting standard. They definitely win in terms of sheer volume, but not officially. And of course, while Thrill The World was all over the world, the largest group in the 2008 Thrill The World was in Austin Texas with something like 806, I'd need to check again. But it whomps 242. Sorry to ruin it for W&M but the online press does need to look into their facts more often now that we don't have newspapers to do it for us. : )
Still: THRILL ON! These kids should join up for this year's Thrill The World!
