After arrest, police seek victims of Craigslist scam

Posted to: Crime News Norfolk

NORFOLK

Police say they are looking for victims of a scam in which a man collected security deposits for property he didn't own and had no authority to lease.

Police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson said in a news release Monday that Shane R. Goettle had been arrested. Parker-Chesson said Goettle placed ads on Craigslist.com offering rental property and collected security deposits once a lease had been signed. The ad respondents wound up without their money and without a place to live, Parker-Chesson said.

Goettle was arrested Monday and faces charges of falsely obtaining money and computer fraud.

If you or someone you know fell victim to such a scam, call police economic investigators at (757) 664-7284.
