PLAYER OF THE YEAR | Kaitlynn Szczepanski

In six postseason victories on the road to the Group AAA state softball title, Great Bridge’s Kaitlynn Szczepanski pitched four shutouts, no-hit 2008 state runner-up Battlefield, yielded two earned runs and struck out 55 batters. KAYLA CASH

• Tallwood Senior catcher
• A major cog in Tallwood’s best season ever, handling young pitcher Mariah Stubbs
• Batted a career-best .354 with 28 RBIs
• Strong arm that Beach opponents didn’t challenge often in All-Eastern Region campaign
• Signed with University of Virginia-Wise

AISHA FIGUEROA

• Ocean Lakes Junior infielder
• A repeat selection on this team, she was instrumental in the Eastern Region semifinalist Dolphins’ best finish ever
• Hit .419 from the leadoff spot, scored 25 runs and struck out only three times
• Stole 36 bases in 39 attempts
• First-team All-Eastern Region

Lindsey Holloman

• King’s Fork Senior infielder
• Bashed seven home runs with 31 RBIs and a .621 batting average
• First-team All-Southeastern District infielder and second- team pitcher
• First-team All-Eastern Region as an infielder
• Signed with UNC Charlotte

Brittany Lane

• Greenbrier Christian Senior pitcher
• Repeated as Tidewater Conference Player of the Year after leading unbeaten Gators to Virginia Independent Schools Division II state title
• Went 23-0 with a 0.55 ERA and four no-hitters
• Also excelled at the plate, hitting .569 with eight homers and 25 RBIs
• Signed with Winston-Salem State

Katie MacCall

• Princess Anne Sophomore outfielder
• A repeat All-Tidewater selection and again the youngest after being the lone freshman on the 2008 team
• Batted .477 with a .576 on-base percentage
• Stole 18 bases in 19 attempts and made only one error
• First-team All-Eastern Region

Jaclyn Paulk

• Great Bridge Senior outfielder
• A dominant force on offense and defense with superior speed in Great Bridge’s run to the Group AAA state title
• Totaled 14 hits and batted .636 in six playoff games after hitting .503 during the regular season
• Scored the winning run in the state semifinal and championship games after reaching base on hits
• An All-Eastern Region pick who will attend James Madison and could be a walk-on

Ashley Reetz

• Great Bridge Junior outfielder
• Fleet-footed lead-off hitter and center-fielder for the state champions and a repeat All-Tidewater selection
• Batted .484 with 19 stolen bases
• First-team All-Eastern Region for a second straight season
• Provided the game-winning hit in the state quarterfinals and batted .333 in the postseason

Kristina Romualdo

• Tallwood Junior infielder
• Eastern Region and Beach District Player of the Year
• Hit .403 with 20 RBIs in leading the Lions to their first Beach title and first Eastern Region and state tournament appearances
• Recorded the game-winning hit that earned a state tournament berth
• Posted a .982 fielding percentage at first base

Savanah Snyder

• Lake Taylor Senior outfielder
• Hit .661 with 24 RBIs and 23 stolen bases
• First-team All-Eastern Region
• Recorded an eye-popping 23 assists
• Will walk-on at Liberty University
