CHESAPEAKE

Police are trying to find any drivers who may have witnessed the shooting of a Chesapeake police officer last week.

Authorities say Officer Sean Fleming was shot behind the wheel of his green Jeep Wrangler by Christopher White, who emerged from a white van at 4:11 p.m. June 1 on a ramp at North George Washington Highway and the Interstate 64 overpass.

White was killed by police, two suspects were arrested, and the body of another man was found in the van. Fleming is recovering.

Chesapeake police spokeswoman Dorienne Boykin said detectives want to make sure they are conducting a thorough investigation. The shooting happened at rush hour, Boykin said, so there may have been a lot of people passing by.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call the department's criminal investigations unit at (757) 382-6251.
