Countrywide settlement funds to help with foreclosure counseling

Posted to: Business Virginia

Virginia Attorney General Bill Mims announced this morning that $50,000 from a settlement with Countrywide Financial Corp. will be used to help families with foreclosure relief counseling.

The settlement, reached in January, was based on accusations of deceptive mortgage practices by the company, the attorney general’s office announced. The money was set aside for foreclosure education under the court-approved agreement.

The money will be used for grants for nonprofit counseling agencies and should benefit about 200 families, the announcement says.

The Department of Housing and Community Development will administer the program, which also includes funds from the Virginia Housing Development Authority, the announcement says.

State officials are encouraging residents to work with lenders to see if relief is possible. Residents also can talk with a HUD-approved foreclosure avoidance counselor or call the Homeownership Preservation Foundations HOPE Hotline at 1-888-995-HOPE.

Oh yea, Countrywide

They're the company that gave Democrat Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee & one of the architects of the Subprime fiasco that has led us to our current economic meltdown, the illegal,
"sweetheart" mortgage for which the current leaders in Congress are trying their best to obfuscate, delay & otherwise get around doing an honest investigation of, right?
Yeah, it's all coming back: been over a year now since the allegations came out when Dodd hisself, after getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar, admitted right there on national TeeVee that he lied the day before to the public.
One of the few honest, unbiased TV talking heads the other day ran a feature on how these tired, corrupt fellow Democrat Congressmen, who as Majority must head up these investigations, haven't even gotten around to subpoenaing the documents yet.
Anyone remember reading about Dodd's transgressions in the Pilot? Didn't think so.
