U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes made a move Thursday to put his expansive "New Manhattan Project" for energy independence on the front burner in the House of Representatives.
The Chesapeake Republican filed an amendment to strip out the contents of a complex climate-control and energy bill. Forbes would insert his plan, which would seek to make the United States energy independent in 20 years.
Forbes wants to use research grants and prizes to encourage development and deployment of more efficient cars, make greater use of solar power, make biofuel prices competitive and develop safer methods for storage or disposal of nuclear waste and coal-plant emissions.
"If we truly want a new energy future for our nation, we need a bold, comprehensive solution that gets at the root of our energy challenges," he said in a written statement.

Sorry.....all the propaganda caused a Freudian slip......I meant to say temps have been on the DECREASE since 2001.
patience is a virtue
It's becoming known that global temps have been on the increase since 2001. Carbon emissins actually contribute to the manufacture of oxygen. Al Gore and others are simply greedy and getitng rich off manipulating public opinion.
I think we are already on the move towards replacements of oil as the fule base thru natural modernization and technology growth. We don't need any futher push into a socialistic tyrannical government that is driving us towards the fate of the Romans and not fomr any outside enemy. People need to wake up and end the destrcution next November and swing congress back the other way to help offset this madness.
Energy independence
Good for Randy Forbes. The plans in Congress for energy solutions are so unrealistic and costly. Let's just hope a Republican will be let on the playing field. That hasn't been happening this year.
