General Dynamics wins Navy work

Posted to: Business Military

The Navy has awarded General Dynamics Information Technology a $51 million contract to support its Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic.

The work will be performed primarily in Chesapeake and Portsmouth. The contract covers a five-year base period and includes eight six-month option periods.

It will be worth as much as $98 million if all the options are exercised.

The unit of Falls Church-based General Dynamics will provide the Space and Naval Warfare center secure data and voice systems, including support of the Defense Red Switch Network.

The network provides worldwide secure voice and conferencing to senior decision makers within the Department of Defense.

The company will perform program management, engineering support, testing and evaluation, logistics support, on-site technical assistance and network security, among other things.

Shalina R. Warren, a spokeswoman for General Dynamics Information Technology, said the company would hire four to six additional full-time employees over the course of the contract, split between Portsmouth and Qatar, an Arab emirate in the Middle East.
