Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, says leaving home without your security detail, as South Carolina's governor did, is unthinkable for a chief executive.
Kaine has traveled extensively the past five months as the Democratic national chairman. He said Thursday in his monthly radio show on Richmond's WRVA that he always has his Executive Protection Unit in tow, no matter if it's state business, DNC or personal travel.
Kaine says it's vital to have EPU agents nearby with ways to communicate if he should be someplace inaccessible when an emergency occurs.
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford gave his security detail the slip last week and was unreachable for several days.
Sanford admitted Wednesday he flew to Argentina to visit a woman with whom he had an affair.

Dang lib media left this part out of the story
Kaine said that a review of previous Virginia governors showed none reimbursed the commonweatlh for security costs incurred during political trips outside the state. That would include former Gov. Jim Gilmore, who served as RNC chairman while in office.
Still, Kaine said he has kept records of the security expenditures and has instructed the DNC to reimburse the commonwealth for the costs, which he said are “less than $10,000” during his first six months on the DNC job.
“That’s not what previous governors have done, but I think it’s the right thing to do and I’m glad to do it,“ Kaine said.
Denied any security??
C'mon doc, you're really a dentist. "Dental" care provider, but "Health" care provider, I don't know.
You gun freaks really tick me off. Taking this opportunity to jump and say how self-important you really are is amusing.
Where has Kaine been ?
This is an interesting link regarding Kaines travel. Seems that he wont answer a FOIA about where he has been.

Kaine should be denied any security
Since Kaine has twice vetoed a measure allowing Concealed Handgun Permit holders to carry their handgun concealed in restaurants, on the condition they not drink at all when carrying, and thus has denied me MY security, he should not be afforded any more protection than I have.
My life is every bit as valuable as his, perhaps more so, since I at least deliver health care and he delivers nothing.
Oh, and by the way
didn't you lose an election? To the house? And you want to compare yourself to a person who was elected by the Commonwealth and not a district?
You are a dentist
and he is our Governor. You are certainly less important than Kaine. Give it a rest -- much like your 'Pelosi demanded a jet' argument. It is empty and weak. Give it up, please.
With the vitriol thats been on display since before the election
Kaine's security detail should be doubled or tripled. Gun sales have gone thru the roof, a vocal section of wingnuttia has been screaming endlessly about manchurian candidates!, communism!, socialism!, facism!, madrassas!, "hanging out w/ terrorists", "destroying merca!", ... and who can forget what the nutters at the Palin rallies were yelling about Obama.
Security details for the rich and famous........
I guess that is why you don't understand what the rest of us working people experience. We don't have security details and we have to try to protect ourselves ............. and in that respect, you have been no help to us. It would be a character building experience for you to have to walk around on your own.
Visits
Wasn’t Wilder the one using state aircraft to visit his girlfriend in New York?
Where is he?
The SC guv ain't the only one who's been scarce. Difference is, not many citizens in VA care if our governor ever reappears, he's been so ineffective. 'Bout the only productive thing ours has done that I recall is he made a radio commercial for the state parks.
My main concern is if my taxes that pay his salary are being used to do the evil DNC's bidding. They should be required to write refund checks for every hour & mile he & his Security Detail give to their cause, being his absense prevents him from working on the problems here at home.
Imagine the media led outcry had this been a Republican Gov engaged in a similar manner!
