Hampton Roads Transit’s Loop service in downtown Portsmouth has two new routes.
The route now includes the Park View and Westbury neighborhoods, while service to Leckie Street and the Navy’s medical center has been discontinued, an HRT news release says.
Service to the medical center was halted because of limited access to the facility after 10:30 a.m., the release says.
Commuters can catch The Loop service at the Food Lion on Peninsula Avenue, HRT says. The new Park View route will run along Elm Avenue and the Westbury route will run along County Street.
Service to the downtown area will continue with stops along High, Crawford and Water streets, HRT says.
Changes are being made to the service at the request of the city and after HRT reviewed the effectiveness of the shuttles, which began running in April 2008, HRT says.
The Loop includes two hybrid-electric shuttle buses funded through an environmental grant, HRT says. For more information, go to www.gohrt.com.

portsmouth officials
they knew that the shuttle had limited access to the medical center from the beginning, the whole olde towne loop is silly and a waste of the taxpayers money. They could use those shuttles to accomodate the people of Portsmouth in a better way.
Naval Hospital
The Naval Hospital is just that - an active Military Base. You know you need proper ID to get on a military base
Before the 300, the nearest stop to the Hospital was High St & Effingham St on Route 47
