VIRGINIA BEACH
Wesley Waites hoped to link a hundred Lake Edward teens with summer employers last Saturday. He didn't bank on the rain.
The Teen Job Fair has been rescheduled for this Saturday in the pool area of Baker Crossing Apartments. The event will run from 1 to 5:30 p.m., rain or shine.
Waites, a neighborhood activist, said the job fair has evolved from its original purpose.
"It went from just getting kids jobs to getting kids opportunities," he said.
Recruiters from BJ's Wholesale Club, McDonald's, Virginia Job Corps and Wards Corner Beauty Academy will have recruiters on hand.
Chick-fil-A is leaving free meal coupons and information on how to apply for jobs, Kool Smiles is doing free dental screenings, and the Virginia Beach Crime Prevention Unit will have officers on hand to talk about gang prevention, Waites said.
Employers interested in participating can contact Waites at (757) 735-9545 or e-mail oldschool4certn1@verizon.net.
