NORFOLK
Two downtown streets will become one-way for light-rail construction.
Beginning Monday, Monticello Avenue will be open only to northbound traffic from City Hall Avenue to Market Street. Driveway access along that stretch and valet service at MacArthur Center will be maintained.
Beginning Tuesday, Plume Street will open only to westbound traffic from St. Paul’s Boulevard to Bank Street. All on-street parking will be removed and the south sidewalk will be closed. Driveway and drive-through access will be maintained.
The traffic patterns will be in effect for several months.

I suggest that everyone
park for free in downtown portsmouth olde town area and use the ferry service to attend Harborfest. Fewer parking issues and it's just a buck each way and yes, you can take your bicycle on the ferry. By going to the web site sugggested by cowpower i discovered that in addition to all the events downtown there will be a cruise liner taking on passengers also during this melee. Use the ferry, it's just so logical at this stage of the game.

This weekend
Ride mass transit.. Use park and rides.. I wouldn't drive your car Downtwon this weekend.. Every parking garage will be filled to capacity.. People will be double parking on Granby.. It's gonna be a mess.
Cedar Grove
This is why I'll be riding my to/from bike from Cedar Grove (as much as I don't like the facility).
Bet I'm the first out of Downtown
This weekend will be terrible for dwntwn visitors and tourist
July 4th celebrations and Harborfest at Townpoint Park dwntwn wwill be a destination for 10's of thousands coming into the city and for Norfolk residents, parking is going to be nil, traffic flow will cause many cases of road rage, The city better post a plan immediately and get it out to the public so at least half of the intended visitors will be enlightened and able to cruise downtwn with minimum disruption. Ha, i know, pipe dream. But this july 4th weekend in dwntwn Norfolk is sure to be a mess.
Grin and Bear It
The city's attitude towards the continuing disruption is it will all be over soon...unfortunately for downtown businesses and real estate activity, it is only 1/2 over with at least another year of street construction and demolition. Many people will not go downtown with the streets being closed, the noise of heavy equipment, and delays. I wonder how much business is off at the MacArthur center and other businesses. Real estate was already slowing down. There have been too many construction projects piggy-backed on top of each other - tieing up the same streets and main arteries. We are all fed up!
Many downtown business owners and residents are not happy with the city administration for subjecting us to this continuing onslaught of construction projects.
The touted quality of life issue has raised its ugly head and its not pretty.
Do more than report the news. Help me.
How about a map and alternate routes?
