VIRGINIA BEACH

A man died this morning after being thrown from his car as it rolled over near Dam Neck Road.

The man was headed north on Bold Ruler Drive shortly before 2 a.m. when the Ford sedan he was driving hit a curb, said Wayne Gilbert, a police spokesman. Investigators believe the man overcorrected and the car rolled over at least three times before crossing the southbound lanes and hitting a utility box.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Gilbert said. The man’s name was being withheld until his relatives could be notified.

Investigators believe the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was driving at an excessive speed, Gilbert said.

The crash remains under investigation.
