Poll says Democratic gubernatorial primary too close to call

Posted to: Elections News Virginia

Five days before Virginia’s Democratic primary for governor, the race appears to be a statistical dead heat with one in five voters still undecided, according a poll released this morning.

The Suffolk University Poll found that state Sen. Creigh Deeds is favored by 29 percent of those surveyed, Democratic Party activist Terry McAuliffe by 26 percent and former state legislator Brian Moran by 23 percent.

Twenty-two percent of those polled said they haven’t made up their minds.

With a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points, the poll does not point to a decisive edge for any candidate.

The interviews with 500 likely Virginian voters were conducted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday by the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston. All of those polled are registered to vote and said they expected to vote in the primary.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will face Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell in the November election.

it's scary

It's scary where some of you get your news.

Instead of posting about who is most able to beat McDonnel...

...why don't you support the person whose principles most closely resembles what you believe in... or are your principles not important anymore? You people who voted for Uhbama, did you notice he received a medallion from the Saudis? What was that for...maybe a payoff or what? Did you hear that Uhbama wants to place an imputed tax on the portion of your benefits your employer provides? That means you will have less take home pay each time you get a paycheck. That means EVERYONE whose employer pays a portion of their medical, dental, life insurance or any other benefit will have that portion taxed and then subtracted just like the other payroll taxes! Not just the evil rich people...but all of us. Is that why you voted for him? That kind of change? WHY this new tax? To redistribute it of course! Marxism run amuck!

the rat

if you have'nt figured it out yet, terry mcualife is a RAT! why do we want someone who could care one bit about virginia. his only goal is to keep it blue. i as an independent,um! strike that! a libertarian, would much rather have deeds or cray as gov.than the clinonista mcaulife. besides is he even from virginia? and i mean a virginian he's playing the hillary card? screw him! he has no "common sense"

brian moran

Brian has the vote of all my family, friends, and neighbors.

It is my firm belief McD doesn't have a chance, and that too comes from my family, friends, and neighbors.

I'll make a prediction you can put huge money on.

Even though the democrat candidate has not been nominated yet, I'd put large money on it that VA Pilot will endorse the democrat nominee

wildhorses..

You are sadly mistaken about Deeds. He lost against Bob McDonell 4 years ago when he ran for attorny general and he will get creamed again this year. Terry McCauliffe is the only candidate out there who understands that technology and business are essential to Virginia's growth. As I have stated, I will vote for Bob McDonell if McCauliffe is NOT the democratic candidate and I know others who will do the same thing!

Deeds

is the guy who can win next week and win in November. Most important, Deeds has the leadership qualities to be a great Governor for all Virginians!

Brian Moran can beat Bob McDonnell.

Brian Moran is the best bet in this race to beat Bob McDonnell. Moran has the necessary contacts and skills to get things done in the Virginia legislature. More importantly, his support of fair treatment of gays and lesbians shows that he is not afraid to take the correct stand on a controversial issue. He clearly has the moral highground. His fiscal management record is impressive. Moran has repeatedly demonstrated a careful balance between protecting families and individuals, and promoting and nuturing businesses that will bring jobs to the commonwealth.

McAuliffe are you kidding?

I'm not a democrat but anyone can see that Deeds is the one for the Dummycrats. And that's not saying that McDonnell is a shoe in, because he isn't. Where's the libertarian...or independent cuz I don't like anybody thats running.

It's McDonell if McCaullife loses the primary election...

If Terry McCauliffe loses the primary election on June 9th then I am going to vote for Bob McDonell. There is no way that I am going to vote for some pro-gay candidate like Brian Moran. I think McCauliffe is the best candidate to lead our state forward to prosperity!
