Letters to Editor - bLetters

We welcome your opinion on public issues, in either of two ways. You can submit a letter to the editor for possible publication in the printed edition. The Virginian-Pilot welcomes letters to the editor on all topics, although concise letters (150 words or less) on public issues will receive priority. Letters may be edited for length, style and clarity and writers are limited to one published letter every month. Please add your name, city, street address and daytime telephone number for confirmation.

The other way is to comment on the published letters in this blog. In this online forum, you can comment as much as you want by using the comment box at the end of each entry.

Nope, no bias

I must have my dates confused. I thought the Democratic primary to choose the gubernatorial nominee wasn't until next Tuesday and that the largest Republican state convention in 15 years was this past Saturday.

However, The Pilot chose to make the three Democratic candidates its front-page, above-the-fold story on May 31 ('Big promises for more jobs but few details) and relegated its story about 11,000 Virginians turning out to nominate Hampton Roads' own Bob McDonnell and the rest of the Republican ticket to the Hampton Roads section ('There's renewed optimism').

Surely there is no bias here. In fact, now that I see I did not have the dates confused, I look forward to the front-page story on June 10 about the platform of Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli, and will look at the Hampton Roads section for the results of the Democratic primary.

Susan... please don't hold your breath

Unless it's a hit piece on Republicans/Conservatives, it's not really news worthy for the V-P. Just remember, alienating half of your potential customers is a winning business strategy... right? Just ask the New York Times.

Hurley Is Hugely Correct

Excellent letter. I keep hoping to convince the big shots at the Pilot that more professionalism would be deeply appreciated. All these weird biases and distortions are wearing me out. I wonder if I'm the only person who reads the Pilot less because of the fundamental problem of trust? Or lack thereof?

This can't be your first...

introduction to the Pilot's well known, undeniable bias, is it? Get used to this. Last week, the Pilot placed a small article about how Obama has lied about how he will assign ambassadors, he had campaigned by promising to place career diplomats in those posts, not political supporters and fund raisers, then turns right around and, you guessed it, rewarded those supporters with these plum assignments! That would have been a front page article if it involved Bush, and we would have seen umpteen editorials about it by now.

So get used to this. It doesn't matter which of the 3 Dems are selected as the nominee, the Pilot will dutifully circle all their wagons around him, and continue serving their Dem Party masters with their lap dog obedience. Ideological purity is a requirement for employment at the Pilot. They will continue that for this, and all elections...
