NSU transfer from Syracuse will aid offensive line

Posted to: College Football Sports

Norfolk State picked up its first big-school transfer of the spring Wednesday and continued to shore up if its offensive line, announcing the signing of guard Michael Kay from Syracuse.

Kay, a 6-foot-2, 285-pounder from Capitol Heights, Md., redshirted for the Orange last season. He'll have four years of eligibility at NSU. He's part of an exodus of players from Syracuse following a change in head coaches.

"A new staff came in and told him he was too small to play," Norfolk State coach Pete Adrian said. "He should get in our rotation, I would think. He's a good-looking kid."

Kay was an all-county pick as a high school senior and was rated a two-star recruit by rivals.com. He'll provide depth at guard, where junior Makeece Preston, a starter, and senior Jerome Johnson, an experienced reserve, are the top returning players.

Kay is the second lineman to transfer in this spring. William Falakiseni, a junior college center from the College of the Siskiyous, in California, signed with the Spartans last month and is expected to start immediately.

Adrian is hoping to add another Football Bowl Series (formerly Division I-A) transfer or two in the coming weeks.
