PETA seeks 'cow empathy museum' dairy site

Posted to: News PETA Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH

PETA wants to milk a business closure and hopes no one has a cow over it.

The animal-rights group on Thursday proposed leasing the Pet Dairy milk-production plant, which will shut in August, and turning it into a "Cow Empathy Museum."

"The museum would convert a building built upon cruelty into a tribute to compassion and kindness," Tracy Reiman, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' executive vice president, wrote in a letter to Gregg Engles, the CEO of Dean Foods Co., which owns Pet Dairy.

The Cow Empathy Museum would tell visitors, among other things, that cows "are forcefully impregnated every nine months... in order for humans to constantly milk them," Reiman wrote.

Interactive displays would give visitors the feeling of "being crammed into a crate to simulate the life of a calf raised for veal."

And for snacks, how about soy-cheese pizza or soy ice cream?

PETA's suggestion came a day after the group chided President Barack Obama for killing a fly during a TV interview.

Dean Foods announced Monday that it would close the Turnpike Road plant and lay off about 100 people. A spokeswoman did not respond to a message Thursday.

Portsmouth Councilman Steve Heretick said PETA's proposal would be "more appropriate in someplace like New Delhi," where cows are sacred.

The idea, he said, might go sour if it doesn't follow the city's zoning and land-use rules.

Cheese is good. Overconsumption of meat causes plenty health problems.

Sorry PETA.....

But a nice layer of asphalt will be layered over your museum site as 164 gets extended to connect to 264.

Guess I'll never get to try the interactive impregnate a cow booth.

Hilarious!

Most of the comments on this story are just as stupid as PETA and it's dumb ideas. If you are going to comment and bash PETA (which I fully support), at least get your facts straight and try to sound somewhat intelligent. Most of these comments are exactly what they want to hear. I bet there's an office full of vegans over there right now absolutely rolling on the floor in laughter over the stupidity of some of these comments. And those who are blaming The Pilot for playing into PETA's hands need to get a life. If you can't see that the angle of this story is that the Pilot finds it just as ridiculous as we do, then you need to read it again. Plus, if the Pilot wouldn't have posted this story, how would you have even known about this absurd idea?

PETS is getting too much Media Attenion

The only reason that PETA does the things it does is because they get media attention for it. If the press and everyone else would just ignore them, they would probably implode from their own foolishness.

Ha Ha Ha

Ironic that a Portsmouth council member would quip about sacred cows. There are so many sacred cows in Portsmouth there is not any meat left in the budget! Laugh and raise taxes---let them eat cake

Thanks Pilot

Maybe this is a bit of fluff as far as news goes. But this article really made my day. Every time I swatted a big fat fly, I thought of those poor cows being forced to procreate. I couldn't stop laughing! Some people are on this planet to entertain the rest of us. Thanks Pilot!

A mooooving campaign!

As you can see below, too much uric acid!

Steak Eaters Museum

Hey Norfolk, can I build a Steak Eaters Museum on Front Street by the bridge?

Before I forget

I want to rename Front St to Steak Eaters St

once again!!!

Once again Peta acts like someone cares about their nonsense, and once again, the Pilot puts another dumb article about them in the newspaper. A never ending cycle of non-news being reported by non-reporters. Oh well, there is nothing else to do this morning. Can't wait for the MVP New York Strips from food lion this evening. I am glad a cow died so I can eat...enjoy your carrots peta.

More peta BS

Here watch this video. Peta hates the truth. Most probably never saw this one.

Peta should visit a small dairy farm

Some of my relatives owned a small dairy farm. Just for the record, the cows were not raped by the big bad bull. The cows were not forced into prostitution for milk. Heres the real story. The cows seduce the bulls with their big brown eyes and by raising their tails. Sans mini skirts, they were definitely asking for "it"! From my eye witness accounts, the cow and the bull both enjoyed it. If the dairy farm is lacking a bull, sometimes the cows get into a bit of girl on girl action. After the calf is weaned, the cows rush to the barn to get milked. It relieves the pressure of the milk in their sacks. As long as the cow is milked daily, the milk does not dry up. Therefore, the cow does not need to become impregnated to continue providing milk for us humans. If she becomes impregnated, it is out of her own desire. Perhaps, she needs a planned parenthood class.

Man. I can never watch the

Man. I can never watch the Brady bunch again. Thanks

I am not convinced that cows

I am not convinced that cows are abused. My brother lives in rural Central Virginia (Orange County) and more cows than people live on his street. I always enjoy seeing them because they look carefree and happy. And it is nicer to wake up to their chatter than the sound of garbage trucks!

Oh! What a wonderful idea !!!

Yep! I must give it to PETA. What a wonderful idea! A COW museum! I can't wait for this idea to become reality. I bet Americans will come from all over the USA to see this. Maybe PETA can even set up a massive cow manure display with real blow flies whizzing around it in protest to Obama publicly killing the White House fly during his media interview.

If PETA could rule the world, human beings would be the only animals that would become extinct.

Beef

It's what's for dinner, breakfast and lunch.

And we can have...

Then we can add a Free-Range cow exhibit where we show how the migratory free-range bovines decimate all agriculture in their wake. Maybe we'll get to see a pack of hyena, wolves or wild dogs attack the herds. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get to see them wander into Human Habitat where, while the PETAphiles try to make friends with them, they gore a few small children and old folk with their fully grown horns.

PETA seeks 'free publicity' with another crazy press release

And somehow, the Pilot keeps obliging them with headlines.

If any other sourse proposed so many ridiculous ideas and failed to ever follow through on any of them, any reputable news source would learn to ignore them. Remember when they wanted to buy Sea World? Or getting Ben & Jerry's to switch to human breast milk? Or renaming fish as "sea kittens". Or renaming Fishkill, New York and Hamburg, Germany.

Here's a proposal: Let's rename Front Street in Nofolk to Beef Street, so they'll have to put that on their letterhead or move.

PETA _ Fly + Cow

How much Co2 did PETA generate to puth forth these news releases.
PETA shows their ignorance every day.
