Police have identified the woman killed in a traffic accident on Saturday as Natalie Turner Staff.
Staff, 49, of the 300 block of Lancing Way in Chesapeake was the driver of a motor scooter that was in a collision with a Hummer.
Around 1:30 p.m., the Hummer's driver turned left onto Cedar Road from Cedar Lakes Drive and struck the scooter, which was driving east on Cedar Road, said Officer Charles Thiebaud, a spokesman for Chesapeake police. Staff died at the scene.
The Hummer's driver was not injured. He said he did not see the scooter, Thiebaud said.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Officer Dorienne Boykin of the Chesapeake police.

Of course he didn't see her....
Folks, of course " he didn't see her". What would you say in a similar circumstance. I saw her and ran her over anyway? No it's not an excuse. It's a reaction - and you would have the same reaction. God forbid you people wanting a life of pain for this boy and showing your lack of common decency ever get in a similar situation. It is sad that a wonderful life was lost, but there are always different perspectives. Eventually everyone will have to find peace with this situation.
Well said
Most people don't get behind the wheel and think, "Gee lets see how many I can take out today!" I wouldn't doubt for a moment that the driver wouldn't give his own life to undo what has happened. I know the agony a person goes through in this situation all too well.
first time drivers......
should not be driving such large vehicles. its sad that this woman lost her life. i personally have dealt with a young driver accident. while at work my car was hit in the employee parking by a 16 year old driving his fathers ford f-350. he completely took out my rear window, hatch, bumper and bike rack. young drivers should start out with small cars and practice in a empty parking lot with larger vehicles.
FULL DISCLOSURE NEEDED- NAME REGISTERED OWNERS
I agree with those readers who recognize the person who gave the boy the car to drive is equally as responsible for killing Natalie. That is the why a follow-up article should give the name(s) of the registered owner(s) of the Hummer. In situations in which minors accidentally hurt or kill someone with handguns, the reporter does not withhold the name of the registered owner of the gun even when the registered owner of the gun had no knowledge the minor had the gun. The registered owner of the Hummer knew the boy had the car and had driven the car before --recklessly. I see no difference between the two owners. Stop allowing these individuals to hide behind curtains of anonymity. Including the names of the registered owners may deter other irresponsible car owners from just handing over keys. Mr. Staff and the Turner family are at the mortuary today. Please spare another family this type of grief.
Gun registration?
Your analogy to publishing the names of the "registered owners" of guns perplexes me. This is Virginia, we don't have gun "registration."
Accident?
You people who are insistent about calling this just a tragic accident should get a reality check!! A vibrant young woman has lost her life at the hands of another. Traffic accidents are not just accidents, They happen because someone screwed up. Following to close, going to fast, cut someone off, running red lights, looking at a cell phone and not the road, spilling their coffee in their lap. Every accident has a cause and we need to start holding these highway vigilantes responsible.
A sad tragedy
The young mans father is a retired office of 15-20 years and was a lieutenant I believe. The Hummer is huge and it has been driven irresponsible in the past with a history driving above the speed limit. Bottom line is that a precious life was lost and likely could have been prevented if the young man driving was more experienced and was driving normal more easily managed vehicle, something much, much smaller that is less dangerous.I feel sorry for both families. I wish parents would stop trying to prove their worth through what they give their kids.
I'M NOT BUYING IT DRSCHUCKER
My earlier posted reply to drschucker seems to have been rejected. I will revise and try again. I apologize for any duplicate entries that may occur.
In my mind, it is hypocrisy for anyone to dismiss what happened to Natalie Turner Staff as an unfortunate accident, unless that person would allow me ---and the other readers who have expressed disgust, anger, and resentment at this situation---to ram his wife, mother, or daughter with a 20 ton projectile, kill her, and walk away with no consequences from the criminal justice system.
Also, the boy may not have a police officer as a parent. However, his parents differ greatly from my own. My parents would never have knowingly allowed us, as minors, to hurt someone to any degree and not acknowledge our wrong, apologize for it, and accept our punishment.
Actually, I can only feel sorry for the young man. He can only be who he has been taught to be.
A "mini Hummer"...LMAO
Sounds like being a 'little pregnant' (or a little bit dead). SUVs are higher, heavier and longer than most cars and so require more skills. Does an SUV's size contribute to drivers feeling safer but farther removed from others on the road, and might that decrease attentiveness & raise aggressiveness? The post that it is drivers and not vehicles was mostly right (but likely both this time). Aggressiveness is not a trait of all SUV drivers, just like not all young drivers are bad drivers, though stereotypes often have some basis in fact. As with road crews and pedestrians, give cyclists a break (& a brake)! Let's do more head swiveling & mirror checking, less yakking & texting.
Hummer and Scooter accident
The hummer was actually a mini-hummer and the driver's father is NOT a police officer and neither is the mother It was an accident. It took a life and that it is sad. It also profoundly affected the driver of the mini-hummer and will for his entire life. Why are so many casting stones? I live a glass house and make mistakes daily. I don't believe any of us is without fault when it comes to driving; few have a spotless driving record. So many harsh comments; where are words of wisdom, understanding, and forgiveness?
