Registration for Norfolk's summer plunge begins

NORFOLK

Registration has begun for Summer Plunge, a free program that transports youths from various neighborhoods to a city swimming pool.

Children and teens, ages 8 to 18, can learn water safety and basic swimming skills.

The program runs from July 6 to Aug. 13.

Registration locations are: Park Place Community Center, Young Terrace Community Center, Jordan-Newby Branch Library, Poplar Halls Elementary School, Ballentine RE-ED School, Campostella Recreation Center, Coleman Place Elementary School, Sherwood Forest Recreation Center and Merrimack Landing Recreation Center.

These locations also will be bus pick-up sites for the program. Denby Park will be a new pick-up site.

Registration also is accepted at the Northside, Berkley, Huntersville and Chesterfield pools.
