While state officials said the number of confirmed cases of swine flu, or H1N1, continues to grow in Hampton Roads and across the state, the World Health Organization today told its members that a global pandemic is being declared.
The declaration of a worldwide pandemic is the first in 41 years, the Associated Press reported today. The move came this morning as infections climbed in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere.
Statistics updated Wednesday by the state Department of Health showed Chesapeake now has seven cases; Norfolk, two; Virginia Beach, two; and Hampton, two.
The Peninsula Health District, which includes Newport News, James City County, Williamsburg, York County and Poquoson, has the most confirmed cases in the state – 13.
There are now 84 confirmed cases in 22 of the state’s 35 health districts.
In a statement sent to member countries, WHO says it decided to raise the pandemic alert level from phase 5 to 6, meaning that a global outbreak of swine flu has begun, according to the news agency. The decision was made after the U.N. health agency held an emergency meeting on swine flu with its experts.

The press thinks that people that get their information by reading it are idiots. Having read what they have to say I find myself feeling like an idiot for reading it. I wont go into detail as to my opinion of those writing it.

How many establishments have begun to provide a means of sanitizing your hands, the handles of grocery carts, etc., because of this "fear" that the Obama administration is attempting to instill in all of us? It's fear that is keeping the swine flu from becoming the bubonic plague . . . we need to understand what we're up against and we need to be prepared. Why would the media or government choose swine flu to sensationalize when it can do the same with heart disease or any other illness claiming many lives every day? Think about that before your paranoia makes you believe Obama is the author of every evil that currently exists or will one day appear in this world.

We see it all the time. Sensationalist drumming up business. Kind of like a tabloid. How about some articles that cover both sides of the issue? Lord knows it's always one-sided about the phoney global warming problem that will cost billions in wasted money and efforts not to mention restricting our quality of life as a result. Oh no, if some loon actor/actress in Hollywood gets behind it (why do you think these kooks want to be make believe actors and not productive citizens?) it gets all kind of coverage...as if those typically under-educated, emotionally disturbed geeks had an inkling about what was right or wrong in the world as veiwed from their gilded perch in in the screwed up state of California!! Give us both sides and make it fair and balanced vice propagandizing or slanting everything to get or keep some Democrat elected. The Pilot is a Democratic party supporter...right??????

Having been a life long student of metaphysics, I can attest that what you focus (or obsess) on will manifest in reality. THOUGHTS ARE THINGS. I urge all of you to examine how the media is constantly and persistently promoting and encouraging fear, perceived crisis and trepidation in their daily content - as if there wasn't enough to be concerned about! This is not to say that the Swine Flu "epidemic" is not authentic BUT this is a clarion call for the public to take a good honest look at how most everything the media reports is slanted to promote fear. Fear keeps the masses off balance and it also disempowers people. We are not victims and we are not powerless. Wash you hands, take precautions and proper care of your immune system and curtail the doom and gloom "news" coming from the media. There is an agenda here and it is to scare the life out of you and keep you in constant turmoil. Don't buy into the fear.
