Tides’ rally wasted as they open trip with loss at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS

Indianapolis scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday night and went on to defeat the Norfolk Tides 9-7 .

Chris Snelling and Jeff Salazar had RBI singles for the Indians in the eighth off reliever Chris Ray (0-1) as the Tides opened an eight-game road trip .

The Tides had rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to take a 7-6 lead by scoring four runs in the four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Brandon Pinckney and Melvin Dorta each had two-run singles in the fifth.

Pinckney added another RBI single in the sixth. Jolbert Cabrera and Chad Moeller added RBI doubles.

Cabrera, Moeller and Jeff Fiorentino also had two hits for the Tides. Salazar had three hits and three RBIs to pace the Indians .

The Orioles on Thursday activated right-handed pitcher Koji Uehara from the disabled list and sent righty David Hernandez back to Norfolk.

Hernandez had his contract selected from the Tides on May 28 and won his major league debut that night, allowing one earned run in 5u2154 innings against the Detroit Tigers.

He made three appearances (two starts) for Baltimore, going 1-1 with a 3.95 ERA.

In other moves, Jake Arrieta (6-3, 2.59 ERA) and Troy Patton, (6-2, 1.99), who have been the top two starters for Double-A Bowie, have been promoted to Norfolk. Arrieta will start for the Tides tonight and Patton will start Monday or Tuesday.
