Lehigh Valley's Lou Marson hit a two-run single in a four-run first inning, and the IronPigs went on to defeat the Norfolk Tides 5-0 in the opener of their four-game series at Coca-Cola Park.

The Tides managed just six hits, with Jolbert Cabrera getting two of them in a 2 for 4 night.

Left-hander Troy Patton (1-2) took the loss for Norfolk. He gave up 10 hits and all five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings. Patton struck out four and walked one.

IronPigs' right-hander Drew Carpenter (7-1) struck out seven and walked one in 8 innings for the victory.

Note: Tides righthander Dave Hernandez has been called up by the Baltimore Orioles. Hernandez will replace Japanese pitcher Koji Uehara, who is headed to the disabled list with an elbow strain.
