Tuesday at Harbor Park: Bisons 4, Tides 2

It had been a month since the Norfolk Tides lost two games in a row. After dropping a pair to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 2-3, the Tides won 22 of their next 27 games.

But then they lost the series finale Monday at Columbus to finish an eight-game road trip, flew back to Norfolk Tuesday morning - and lost again.

The Tides fell behind 4-0 early to the visiting Buffalo Bisons, committed three errors and scored just one run in the first eight innings.

"That wasn't one of our better games, to say the least," manager Gary Allenson said. "Whether it was the travel or what... we played flat."

The Tides were looking to pick up their 35th win in just 51 games. They needed 90 games to win that many last season. This year's pace has been torrid, but keeping it up could prove difficult.

Three of the team's biggest hitters - most recently star catcher Matt Wieters - and three starting pitchers have been called up to the Orioles.

"We're going to find out if we can keep it up," Allenson said. "Losing that many guys, it's going to be tougher. We've done OK up to now, but..."
