Virginia Beach man charged in death of motorcyclist

VIRGINIA BEACH

A Virginia Beach man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a motorcyclist in April, police said.

Christopher Ballard, 26, was charged today with reckless racing involving a death and held on a $20,000 bond, police spokeswoman Margie Long said.

Ballard is suspected of driving a car that was racing motorcyclist Joshua A. Schools on April 27 on Lynnhaven Parkway.

Schools struck a curb and was thrown from his bike. He died at the scene, police said.

Investigators determined speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, and eventually determined Schools was racing Ballard moments before the crash, Long said.
