Weather: Temps in 90s, but some relief on the way

Southwest winds blowing 5 to 10 mph will drive temperatures into the lower to mid 90s this afternoon.

With the heating comes the risk of stray showers or storms. The better chances for showers or storms will occur late tonight as a cold front slips through the Hampton Roads.

Air quality today in Hampton Roads will be moderate, according to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

Behind the front winds will shift to the north and the highs for Saturday and Sunday should generally be in the upper 80s. Skies Saturday will become partly sunny. We should enjoy mostly sunny conditions Sunday.

Looking ahead to the middle of next week, temperatures should eventually settle back to near normal highs in the mid 80s.

If you plan on heading to the beach, we still have a moderate risk of rip currents, the UV index is 9, and the average surf height is 2 to 3 feet with water temperatures in the lower 70s.
