A 6-year-old boy injured in an ATV accident near Holland on Friday remained in serious but stable condition at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in the intensive care unit on Saturday, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
The accident happened at about 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Bott Lane, a private road in the southern part of Suffolk. The child was taken by Nightingale Air Ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Police released more details about the accident Saturday. They said a man and his 4-year-old son were about to take a ride on a four-wheeler. The 6-year-old, a neighbor, got on the four-wheeler’s seat in front of the 4-year-old.
When the adult started the vehicle, the 6-year-old grabbed and engaged the throttle, a statement from the city said. The ATV flipped, injuring the 6-year-old.
Police have not released the boy’s name.
George said the accident is being investigated.
