Chesapeake Bay beaches reopened in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH

A swimming and wading advisory issued for the Chesapeake Bay from Starfish Road to Wake Forest Street was lifted today.

Lab results showed bacteria levels in the water meet the state water quality standards, according to a news release from Virginia Beach. Signs that previously alerted the public of the advisory have been removed.

The swimming advisory was issued Wednesday following an abnormally high bacteria level reading.

Environmental health officials sample recreational beach water on a weekly basis during the swimming season, from May through September.
