Customs officers seized more than 14,000 pairs of counterfeit Abercrombie jeans found July 9 in a shipping container at a port terminal, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Thursday.
The jeans, bearing Abercrombie logos, were found in a 40-foot shipping container at Norfolk International Terminals, through one of a number of random examinations conducted at the port daily, said Louis Rossero, a spokesman in Customs’ Norfolk office.
A total of 14,400 pairs of jeans were seized, with a wholesale value of $144,000 and a manufacturers’ suggested retail price of $1.1 million, according to a statement released by Customs officials.
Rossero could not provide any detail about where the container was being shipped aside from saying it was not bound for any specific retail store or chain. There are no pending charges and no investigation is under way, he said.
The jeans, which came from China, will be destroyed, Rossero added.
Intellectual property rights enforcement has been designated as a priority issue by Customs, which has targeted and seized an increasing number of counterfeit products, according to the Customs statement.
Violations of intellectual property rights “hurt not only the American public, but companies lose billions of dollars in revenue each year from trademark violations,” said Mark J. Laria, area port director in Norfolk, in the statement.

Destroyed??? What a waste...
Why don't they donate the jeans to CHKD's thrift store. They will be sold for way less than their original "over" price, but still benefit a good cause. This way they aren't completely wasted. So what if people are walking around with "fake" name brand jeans. At least the counterfeiters didn't get a penny of the money.
So the U.S Customs in all
So the U.S Customs in all it's wisdom will destroy the clothes rather than shp them to some country in need of clothing?
help for the people
I say let's go by income guidelines give each family member 2 prs of these jeans a piece...sounds fair and would actually help especially with school around the corner again soon..what do you say? think it's a good idea?!
???
And is there a follow up, i.e. who is the shipper, originating port, manufacturer, what country, is anyone going to be prosecuted???? If not, yawn!!!!------- who cares, cause we have our own administration destroying this country and no one seems to care or is doing anything about it. Just another stepping stone to the demise of the USA!!!!

Wow - what a markup!
Not Really
From their website the average pair of jeans from them is between $80 and $98.
I'm surprised it costs them
I'm surprised it costs them $10 to make each pair. In the documentary "The Corporation" the one guy who's name escapes me (he is a true hero) says that the cost of manufacture of a Nike shirt was 13% of 1% of the retail price. I was poking around for shirts during one of the last sales and $100 shirts were made in China. It's like, bwahah like I'm going to pay you $100 for this. I don't care if it's made in China it just better be priced like it.
Did they say...
Did they say what size the jeans were? I'm a size 32.
