Greenhorn Gardening

Better eating. That’s what Pilot staffer Patti Tims wants, so she’s experimenting: What vegetables can she grow in containers at her apartment? Pilot staffer Jen McCaffery, on the other hand, has done container gardening and decided to take her skills a step further. Since she's nowhere close to the recommended daily serving of vegetables, she’s seeing what she can produce in her yard.

Declaration of resplendence

Patti blogging:

We've all seen photos of flag cakes -- white frosting with strategically arranged fruit -- and they look perky and inviting.

If we took a step back to something less processed, we'd come up with offerings from a garden (photos from www.flowers.vg):

Not from my garden, mind you. The only red, white and blue in my urban tableau are a ripening cherry tomato, the cable ties around the flower boxes, and the sky.

I declare.
