NORFOLK
Police have charged the driver of a BMW that crashed this weekend on Granby Street, killing two people.
Richard B. Freeman, 24, of the 8000 block of Albemarle Drive in Norfolk, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
On Sunday, police said that speed was a factor in the single-car crash Saturday morning at Granby and Kingsley Lane. A man and woman were killed in the crash, and three other people were injured.
On Sunday, police identified the two people killed as Cameron Richardson, 25, of Chesapeake and Lauren Kok, 22, of Staten Island, N.Y. Richardson was a passenger in the front seat of the BMW that crashed, and Kok was a passenger in the back seat, said Karen Parker-Chesson, a Police Department spokeswoman.
The driver crashed into a tree in the median in the 6100 block of Granby, in front of Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, Parker-Chesson said. The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. Police have not said how fast they estimate the vehicle was traveling.
Of the three people who survived, one was in critical condition Sunday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Parker-Chesson said. The other two had minor injuries, she said.
