Duke-bound basketball player mulling options

Posted to: College Basketball, Men High Schools Sports

Atlantic Shores rising senior Andre Dawkins, one of the top basketball prospects in the class of 2010, committed to Duke a year ago, but several Web sites have reported he is leaving high school a year early to become a Blue Devil.

Dawkins’ father, also named Andre, said nothing has been finalized.

“We’re definitely looking at it, but it’s definitely premature,” he said. “I don’t know where people got that information from.”

Dawkins said he and his son, a 6-foot-5 guard, will know more by mid-August.

Dawkins helped lead the Seahawks to the Division II state private school final. He averaged 20.5 points and 4.7 rebounds for Atlantic Shores.
