Gubernatorial debate streamed live online Saturday morning

Gubernatorial candidates Creigh Deeds and Bob McDonnell will square off in a debate to be streamed live online at 11 a.m. today.

The debate, being held at The Homestead Resort, will be streamed by the soon-to-launch site VirginiaTalks.com in partnership with the Virginia Bar Association, according to their sites. The bar association is sponsoring the debate in Hot Springs.

The event will be moderated by Rod Smolla, dean of the Washington and Lee University School of Law, according to the bar association.

Viewers of the live stream also will be able to join in a simultaneous online discussion and submit questions that may be selected for use in the debate, according to the bar association.

After the debate, the public will have access to the entire broadcast on the VirginiaTalks.com site through the election.

Facebook users also can join the VirginiaTalks.com page and Twitter users can join in at www.Twitter.com/VirginiaTalks.

The new site is being launched by Style Weekly. The Richmond publication is owned by Landmark Media Enterprises LLC, the parent company of The Virginian-Pilot.
