VIRGINIA BEACH

One person died this morning in a motorcycle crash on Birdneck Road at the end of the ramp from Interstate 264, police said.

Dispatchers were called about the crash at 3:39 a.m., they said.

Michael Allen Harris Jr., 26,  sped down the ramp on his 2003 Yamaha motorcycle and lost control when he reached Birdneck, said Sgt. Michelle Cotten, Virginia State Police spokeswoman. Harris, of Culpeper, crashed and died at the scene.

The ramp reopened shortly before 7 a.m.

The incident marked the second fatal motorcycle crash on I-264 in less than a week.

Marcus Raheem Williams, also 26, died after losing control of his 2002 Honda motorcycle in the westbound lanes, just east of Witchduck Road, Cotten said. Williams, who was speeding, crashed into a light pole and died at the scene. He lived in the 600 block of Chesapeake Blvd. in Norfolk.

Investigators did not know whether alcohol was a factor in either crash, Cotten said.
