NORFOLK
A man who pleaded guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge in a wreck that killed a man will serve 16 months for the crime, a judge ruled Thursday.
Doncelle McClendon, 20, must also pay $3,000 to the family of Michael Hill, the man who was killed. An additional three-year sentence was suspended.
According to a summary of evidence filed with court papers, McClendon was in a stolen 2008 Infiniti with two others about 7:20 p.m. Nov. 22.
The driver of the Infiniti, who is unknown, was speeding between 55 and 60 mph and ran a stop sign at West 25th Street and Colonial Avenue.
The Infiniti crashed into Hill's 1996 Honda Passport as he drove north on Colonial. Hill was ejected and came to rest facedown on 25th Street.
McClendon and two other people in the Infiniti ran. None called police, and none stopped to help Hill, according to the summary.
Amanda Howie, spokeswoman for the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, said a juvenile girl has also pleaded guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge and is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
The third person in the Infiniti has not been identified, Howie said.
