Michelle Obama to welcome sailors in Norfolk today

NORFOLK

Michelle Obama and Virginia first lady Anne Holton will attend a ceremony in Norfolk today marking the return of Navy personnel from deployment.

Service members with the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and the hospital ship Comfort returned to American soil this week.

Obama will speak at an event and meet with Navy leadership and families during her visit.

Obama has made a focus on military families part of her agenda – during the 2008 election, she visited with military families in Norfolk to outline proposals to provide improved services for veterans and more predictable deployments.

Sore Losers

Good Morning,

I am a 20 year Navy Veteran. This whole issue isnt about Michelle Obama coming out to welcome home our hard working sailors. Its about the sore losers that are still angry the Replublicans lost the presidency. Just say it! Say what you really are upset about. Trashing our president and his family isnt going to help the problems we have in our country. As a Navy veteran I would be proud that my presidents wife is coming to welcome me home regardless of political party. If you really care about your country do something positive. Volunteer your time, say a kind word, help out a military member coming back from war who needs a job, be a role model for your children, get off the couch!

Don't you have a boat to

Don't you have a boat to catch?

...but the GOOD news is...

You know, reading through these comments, noting all the cynical, narrow-minded, ignorant and holier-than-thou participants, one might begin to believe that there's a reason Virginia's largest urban area is (not so jokingly) referred to as a Hamburger Town, that it's the largest metropolitan area in the country without a major professional sports franchise, that the only Corporate presence of any consequence is the headquarters of a tired old railroad, and that "good" jobs in our area pay less than two-thirds what they do in any other town our size. But the GOOD news is that these people are only talking to themselves, and that there are a bunch of really thoughtful and smart people in Hampton Roads who are trying to improve themselves and their community, and welcome any chance to honor its citizens (military, or otherwise) and get a little press coverage of our town when VIP's visit to do the same. Thankfully, there are alot more of us than there are of them...

Obama's wife

ifschlegel-- We feel so fortunate to have someone as smart as you in our area. Your visit should be over by now since you don't like the people or the area. Go back up north where the other smart alecks come from. You and your type are not welcome in our dumb city.

This thread has been hijacked ...

This is about sailors and soldiers wanting to go home and be with their families. Instead, they have to listen to a couple of political posturing idiots that could care less about the needs of these warriors. Bush (senior) did the same thing. The only difference (besides the fact that he actually tasted battle) was that he was of a different political persuasion. I hope the woman has the common decency to at least keep it brief. I can assure you that no one (Admirals and other senior officials excluded) will hear a word she says. They will only see their loved ones.

What sports franchise would

What sports franchise would want to be called "Hampton Roads ____" or "Tidewater_____". Nobody in the country knows where either of these places is...nor do they need to. The closest thing to a sport in this place is Friday night at Golden Corral.

Golden Corral is dinner

Golden Corral is dinner theater, not sports....

Here's Your Role Model

"On February 18, 2008, she commented in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that "For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback." Later that evening she reworded her stump speech in Madison, Wisconsin, saying "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."
Spare me, please!!@!!!!!

I understand her sentiment.

I understand her sentiment. Her honesty is refreshing. I'm proud to have her as the first lady.
