Navy copter crash damage expected to top $1M

Posted to: Military Virginia

The crash of a Navy Reserve helicopter at Fort Pickett on Tuesday night is being ruled a Class A mishap, with damage expected to top $1 million, the Navy said Wednesday.

The six people on board suffered minor injuries and were not hospitalized.

The crash occurred at 9:45 p.m., as the helicopter was conducting routine unit-level training, said Mike Maus, a spokesman for Naval Air Force Atlantic.

The helicopter, a HH-60H Seahawk, is assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 84, based at Norfolk Naval Station’s Chambers Field.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Maus said. The Navy did not identify the victims, which included two pilots and four crewmen.

The squadron, which is part of Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic, has traditionally supported special warfare operations.

I think you miss understood me. I am happy that they all walked away. It seems more emphisis was put on the cost of the repairs. I was trying to figure out why the reporter was telling us how much it was going to cost us to repair the helicopter as opposed to how lucky they are to have walked away. It not always about the money. God Bless the men and women that serve our counrty!!

MINOR injuries...why don't you read closely?

Insofaras "what we saved in death benefits?" Words escape how I feel about that statement. Suffice to say, my comments would surely be edited out as inappropriate.

Be thankful they "walked away" training to provide the very freedom you enjoy!

Why tell us how much it cost?

Why did the reporter feel is was important to tell us how much it is going cost cost for the helicopter? How about telling us how much it saved us in death benefits by the victims living. Tell us how much you get paid for your story!!!

Injuried?

Injuried? Seriously? Proofread people!!! This is not a High School newspaper!
