NORFOLK
Firefighters have extinguished a fire at the Faith In Action Church at 4603 Cape Henry Ave.
Units responded to the blaze at approximately 10:30 a.m., said Capt. Mike Marsala, a spokesman for the fire department.
But because of the size of the building and fears that the roof would collapse, crews had to pull back, he said. They extinguished the fire from outside using aerial equipment, he said.
The fire breeched the church roof, but it did not collapse, Marsala said.
There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire, he said. One firefighter went to the hospital for treatment of minor heat-related injury, he said.
Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by an electrical problem, Marsala said.
