Two people died and two were injured early Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on North Military Highway, police said.

Michael Hall, 20, of the 900 block of Armfield Circle in Norfolk and Laura Etzell, 21, of the 3100 block of S. Battlefield Blvd. in Chesapeake died at the scene, said Officer Chris Amos, a police spokesman.

According to a preliminary investigation, Hall, Etzell and a third person were in an Acura crossing North Military Highway on Johnstons Road shortly before 2 a.m., Amos said. A Hyundai traveling south on the highway ran a red light and struck them, he said.

The Acura's third occupant was in the hospital in critical condition Saturday afternoon, Amos said. The Hyundai's driver was also taken for treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Speed and alcohol may have been involved, but police are still investigating the cause of the crash, Amos said. The commonwealth's attorney may file charges, he said.
