Pro-choice advocates pick Deeds

State Sen. Creigh Deeds, the Democratic nominee for governor, today received the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, a pro-choice group.

In a statement, the group attributed its support of Deeds to his "consistent voting record in favor of protecting reproductive choice, access to emergency contraception and women's health."

The Planned Parenthood statement goes on to note that Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell is "opposed to reproductive choice, even in cases of rape or incest."

McDonnell, a former attorney general and state Delegate from Virginia Beach, is unabashedly pro-life.

While not an unexpected endorsement, the nod is one that has the potential to inflame partisans on either side of the abortion debate.
